Dairy products nutritious, cheap and easy

Dairy foods are not only affordable and convenient but also packed full of vital vitamins and minerals required to maintain optimum health, according to a new report.

With household budgets feeling the pinch in the recession, dairy products such as cheese, milk and yoghurt provide essential nutrients at value prices, researchers state in the latest issue of the Journal of the American College of Nutrition.

The study concluded that consuming three to four daily servings of dairy foods is an easy way of getting key nutrients, including calcium, potassium and magnesium, which many Brits lack in their regular diets.

In addition to benefiting bone health, clinical findings show that dairy produce can help change body composition and aid weight management, particularly in people who are overweight or obese, the report revealed.

Low-fat or fat-free dairy foods can also play an integral role in reducing blood pressure and improving cardiovascular health.

Children and teens between the ages of nine and 18 require, on average, four servings of dairy to meet their daily calcium recommendations and at least three servings for magnesium.ADNFCR-858-ID-19248980-ADNFCR
