The target heart rate is a range that is a percent of your maximum heart rate. This range indicates the number of times per minute your heart should beat during cardiovascular exercise. When training, your heart rate should be between the range we list below in order to ensure that you are expending enough energy for weight loss.

Determining Your Current Heart Rate

Recording your heart rate is important for determining how hard you are exerting yourself while exercising.

To measure your heart rate, count your pulse for 10 seconds during exercise. Enter this into the box provided below and select the calculate button.

If your current heart rate falls within the target heart range calculated above, you will be maximising your weight loss potential. When exercising check your 10 second pulse rate and compare this to the Target 10 second pulse range calculated above, to quickly gauge whether your heart rate falls within the target heart range for your age.
