Hormones responsible for weight regain

Researchers at the University of Melbourne have suggested that hormones which influence appetite are to blame for weight regain after dieting.

The study, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that those involved in the research gained an average of 12 pounds during the 12 months following their diet.

Joseph Proietto of the University of Melbourne in Australia, and an author of the study, said: "People who regain weight should not be harsh on themselves, as eating is our most basic instinct."

When comparing the hormones of dieters before and after their weight loss regime, the researchers found that of nine hormones which regulate hunger, six were unbalanced.

This post-diet imbalance was having an influence on increasing hunger, the researchers concluded.

Data reviewed from the National Weight Control Registry has revealed that most dieters regain weight shortly after they have stopped dieting.ADNFCR-858-ID-800778897-ADNFCR
