Lifestyle intervention linked to diabetes prevention
Adopting a healthy diet and fitness plan could help reduce a person's likelihood of developing type-2 diabetes, research suggests.According to Diabetes UK, an estimated seven million Brits are at high risk of the condition secondary to raised blood glucose levels.
Serious complications associated with type-2 diabetes include cardiovascular disease, stroke, blindness and kidney failure.
Dr Victoria King, research manager at the health organisation, said: "Unfortunately there is unlikely to be a quick and easy route to prevent type-2 diabetes.
"A healthy balanced lifestyle with a good diet and physical activity levels are the best preventative methods."
Results of a survey carried out by the European Kidney Health Alliance revealed that 67 per cent of diabetes patients are aware that they are at greater risk of chronic kidney disease.
However, 70 per cent have never discussed steps they should take to look after their kidneys with a doctor.
