Londoners to drink equivalent of 33m pints of beer this December
The London Fire Brigade analysed statistics from the charity Drinkaware to come up with the estimated figure.
Fire officers are concerned that such high levels of drinking may well lead to an increase in house fires, as many revellers head to their kitchen to cook food after a heavy night out.
To address the issue, the London Fire Brigade has launched a new campaign urging people to consider buying a takeaway after drinking, instead of cooking at home.
Commissioner Ron Dobson said: "Our message is simple, if you've had too much to drink, don't go home thinking you're on MasterChef.
"Too many fires start when someone has passed out, leaving a pizza in the oven or a pan on the hob and it can be fatal. If people are planning a big night out, they should plan on having a takeaway on the way home."
This could cause a dilemma for those attempting to lose weight, as many takeaway dishes are high in fat.
However, healthier options are not impossible to find, such as thin-crust pizza topped with vegetables instead of pepperoni, or shish kebab with pitta bread and salad as opposed to a doner kebab with mayo and chips.
