One in five 'still diet on Christmas Day'

Christmas is generally regarded as a time for overindulgence, but a new survey suggests that many people still diet on the big day itself.

Research Now surveyed 1,002 men and women on behalf of Herbalife, a marketing company that sells nutrition products.

Its poll revealed that 21 per cent of respondents planned to continue their diet on Christmas Day, while 73 per cent claimed to count the calories of alcohol consumed over the festive period.

The vast majority (84 per cent) of survey participants said their health and diet would be of greater concern than their finances in 2012.

And every single person involved in the survey said they had been on a diet at some point during their lifetime.

Gavin Aley, UK director at Herbalife, described the fact that people still worry about their weight at Christmas as "alarming".

He said that "everything in moderation is the key to a happy and healthy lifestyle", adding: "A balanced diet over the course of the year will enable you to enjoy a few treats over the festive period."ADNFCR-858-ID-801248277-ADNFCR
