Over-50s urged to eat nutrient-rich food
Tony Bishop-Weston, food writer and founder of Foods for Life, a body which encourages an integrated approach to health and wellbeing, claimed that dieting rules are essentially the same for Brits aged over 50 as younger consumers.
However, elderly Britons should take special care to ensure that they do not eat food full of processed nutrients or those that are naturally low in nutrients.
He said: "[Over-50s should] eat more foods that are naturally rich in soluble fibre, vitamins minerals, anti-oxidants and essential fats.
"As we get older, we often have weakened digestive systems and find it harder to absorb nutrients and also have smaller appetites, so it is even more important to eat nutrient dense food rather than calorie dense food."
Earlier this month, Steve Halsall, fitness travel expert and entrepreneur, claimed that cycling is an ideal exercise for older consumers as it is easy on the joints.
