People with diabetes 'need not miss out' this Christmas

People with diabetes can still have a merry festive season as long as they eat treats in moderation, experts have advised.

A spokeswoman for Diabetes UK noted that people with the disease should avoid eating too many mince pies and cakes, as these tend to be higher in fat and calories than other foods.

This means they can cause blood glucose levels to rise - something that people with diabetes could find difficult to manage.

But Cathy Moulton, the charity's clinical advisor, insisted that this does not mean patients have to rule them out of their diet plans completely.

She said: "Eating at Christmas is part of the fun, and there's no need to completely miss out on certain foods.

"It's also a good idea to keep healthy snacks, such as vegetable crudites, olives or dried fruit, around the house so that you're not tempted to go overboard with the selection boxes."

So if you or one of your loved ones has type-2 diabetes, why not dig out some healthy recipes for Christmas Day and avoid eating too many foods that are high in fat and sugar.ADNFCR-858-ID-801249437-ADNFCR
