Are you brave enough?

Like most Tesco Diets members, I too am on my own personal weight loss journey and I know the challenges to be faced when it comes to staying motivated. This last couple of weeks I have been experiencing that annoying phase where the weight sticks at one point and refuses to budge. There’s nothing worse, is there? So how to stay motivated? As a self-confessed Facebook addict, I decided to put my goal right out there for all to see. I found a photo of myself taken two years ago wearing a pair of jeans a size smaller than I currently wear and underneath posted "I WILL get back into these jeans!" Putting this out where all my online friends could see it was my way of declaring my goal and you know what? It felt good! I feel that I have committed to this goal and am now determined to keep going and see it through. Once I reach this goal (and I will!), I will post another photo of myself in those jeans. As a result of this, I feel more motivated today and absolutely committed to achieving this goal. Social media can be a great motivational tool in this sense. Whether you tweet, post, blog or chat, going public with your goals means committing to following through and achieving them. You may feel daunted by this prospect but what you will get back in return is an outpouring of encouragement from your online friends. You may even find others who will want to take this journey along with you, offer tips and advice or will happily cheer you along from the sidelines. As the saying goes; "I’ll get by with a little help from my friends" and it really is true. With a little moral support and encouragement, we can achieve our goals. Don’t be afraid to share the lows, as well as the highs of your journey. It’s when you start to struggle that the support really counts and when you are able to post about your successes, you will really feel you are flying high! If words aren’t your forte then use pictures as motivation. If you are having a ‘low’ day, search out some humorous diet-related pictures and post one or two to share with friends. I guarantee they will make you (and others) smile. Post pictures of when you were slimmer and aspire to reach that weight again. Every time you log-in you will see these pictures as a reminder to stay on track. Bookmark or pin photos (on Pinterest) of clothes you would like to wear when you are slimmer, activities you would like to do when you are fitter or something you would like to treat yourself to when you reach a certain goal. Post ‘before and after pictures’, use counters and tickers to mark off your progress and post about your inch loss or weight loss as you go. You will love how motivating it feels so don’t be shy… put it out there!
Kind regards,
Jennifer Roche

Hello POMPEYVIC82, I have no doubt you will be back into that Little Black Dress by Christmas. Having a goal to work towards is a great motivator.

Hi Jennifer,
I too find the responses from the mentors one of the best supports on this journey, but I have also taken the plunge and posted a photo of myself in a cocktail dress from about 18 months ago. It's my goal to be back in that dress by this Christmas. THANK-YOU!! :-)

Hi Jennifer,
I'm not brave enough to share my journey on facebook, but I do know that support is so important, because no matter how determined you are you will always hit lows.
You've written back to me in the past when I've left a comment when I've recorded a disappointing week and it's through your one-to-one support along with the other mentors that can help me stay motivated. And as it's one to one, I admit to you things that I would never admit on a social network.
