And you thought you were a picky eater…
It's no secret that celebrities, rock stars and Hollywood socialites are demanding and (dare we say it?) spoiled. But have you ever really paid attention to some of their demands?
There are vegetarians, vegans, health nuts, boozers, people who can't have chocolate, people who must have chocolate and those who won't eat a sandwich unless it's made with exactly two slices of ham. Their dressing rooms have to be a certain colour, their candles a certain scent and their bath towels a certain size. Some even specify the number of plastic cups they need.
But that's just the beginning. Our researchers dug up a bunch of "riders" (the list of demands and requirements celebs give to venues before their arrival) and pulled out the sassiest, finickiest and silliest requests out there. And honestly, we'd hate to be the person filling these shopping lists.
Let's start with a whopper: Former Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose recently kept fans in the UK waiting for over an hour because he refused to go on stage without first satisfying his sudden craving for a full roast lamb dinner.
Diva Christina Aguilera seems to still be a young Mouseketeer at heart - aside from a huge list of organic foods, she requires a bottle of Flintstones chewable vitamins, Oreo cookies and a container of chocolate Nesquik.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers seem to have a fondness for Lucky Charms cereal when they are touring in the US. Well, that and whole, pitted dates, unsalted raw cashews and plain rice cakes.
Hip Hop duo Gnarls Barkley wouldn't dream of such healthiness in their request sheets. They'd rather dive into a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken and a dozen doughnuts - either Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme will do. They also ask for a 2-pack of men's white, athletic socks (random, we know).
Rapper 50 Cent also lists KFC as a requirement, along with macaroni and cheese and Cristal champagne (at least £100 a bottle). Fancy combo, huh?
Mariah Carey also wants Cristal, along with a selection of sugar-free chewing gum, tea service for eight (classy) and a box of bendy straws (and trashy!).
Shock rocker Marilyn Manson wants a full pound of fresh minced beef (we don't want to know why), blocks of cheese and four bags of Haribo Gummy Bears, which he emphasises MUST be Haribo. Oh, and a bottle of Absinthe.
Not to be outdone, crowd favourite Green Day asks for a bottle of silver tequila, a bottle of whiskey (Jameson or Bushmills), a bottle of vodka and four bottles of wine.
And Coldplay made similar requests for their performance at the MTV Awards show: vodka, wine, specifically 48 bottles of beer (there are four members, so let's see... that's TWELVE beers each!) - and organic soup and free-range chicken to balance it all out, of course.
Country songstress Shania Twain's a big fan of drinking as well - drinking homemade juice, that is. She brings her own juicer, but demands practically an entire greengrocers: 4.5 kilos of carrots, 6 lemons, 3 papayas, 1 watermelon, 3 small beetrootss, etc. To snack on, she specifies "orange cheese popcorn," which her rider specifies is "often most easily found at local corner shops."
You could solve most of Snoop Dogg's latest requests at the World Music Awards at the same stores. His must-haves? Hot dogs, fizzy pop and chewy sweets. Also, he normally wants a Sony Playstation with sports games ("Please trust that this will be some of the most important money you spend," his rider reads.)
So, obviously, food isn't always the most essential. Just ask Tommy Lee and Kid Rock - both of them ask for an on-call masseuse.
For the current UK leg of her tour, Madonna must have a sparkling new toilet seat every night (even if she's at the same place?). Word is, "The seat has to be inspected by her people, then installed - with an unbroken seal - by plumbers before every gig."
They don’t ask for much, do they?!
