Brits looking to lose weight in the New Year should learn to embrace the cold weather, according to a health expert.

Charlotte Watts, nutritional therapist and co-author of The De-Stress Diet with Anna Magee, revealed that acclimatising to the winter weather is a key part of weight loss.

She said: "One of the really good things to do is to get used to the cold, don't assume you have got to put on that extra layer, don't assume you need to put on the central heating [all the time].

"[Getting used to the cold] is amazing for weight loss, it will set your metabolism up and it means you are more likely to go out and exercise in the winter if you feel that you can cope with the cold."

Ms Watts also emphasised the importance of rest after completing a vigorous exercise programme as this can allow the body to recover and help people relax.ADNFCR-858-ID-801257827-ADNFCR
