Eating a healthy diet low in processed meats can reduce the risk of developing bowel cancer, the Association for International Cancer Research (AICR) has stated.

Dr Lara Bennett, scientific advisor at AICR, stated that other lifestyle factors, such as being overweight, smoking and drinking, all add to the risk.

She said: "Having a lower body weight and being more physically active [combined] with a diet high in fruits and vegetables [reduces the risk]."

People should also limit the amount of saturated fat they consume, she suggested.

According to Professor Cheryl Rock, of the University of California, women can reduce their chances of developing cancer by up to two-thirds through good nutrition and managing their weight.

She said that even women who have genetic mutations which increase the risk of developing cancer can reduce it by eating the right foods, such as salmon, olive oil and broccoli.ADNFCR-858-ID-800774945-ADNFCR
