Think creatively and eating organic won't cost the earth

When asked, most people will say that buying organic food costs more per basket of shopping than regular goods and most will use this as their reason for not going organic.

But according to Josh Stride from the Soil Association, eating a healthy diet of organic food can be done without blowing your weekly budget in one shop.

"As far as eating organic and whole foods on a budget, it is a myth that only the wealthy can afford to eat healthy, fresh, organic food."

It seems that the way to go about switching to an organic diet or to introduce more organic products into your diet is to start small rather than jump two-footed into a mound of naturally grown produce and end up out of pocket.

"There are many factors that contribute to make buying organic more affordable, and some do require a bit of creativity and some small changes in the way we think about food," he said.

This could be anything from picking your favourite dish and sourcing organic ingredients from your supermarket or simply replacing one of your favourite snacks with its organic alternative.

It's quite easy, but like any new challenge, it takes time, trial and tinkering till you get it right.
