Gemma chats to us about the difference losing weight has made to her…
How do you feel about dieting?
I have tried dieting on my own before, but have struggled to keep the weight off.
Why did you decide to start your weight loss journey?
I was unhappy with my weight for a long time before joining Tesco Diets, but the turning point for me was seeing photos of me looking so big at Christmas 2010.
How was your social life before losing weight?
I couldn’t find clothes I liked because I only went to plus-size stores. I didn’t even want to leave the house or socialise.
How was your diet?
Before I joined Tesco Diets I often had take-aways or cooked something in the oven. This would normally be a large portion as I would be hungry after a long day at work.
Everyone has reacted fantastically to my weight loss and one of my friends was even motivated to join
Have you changed any of your eating habits?
I cook every night and eat smaller portions. I enjoy food and was brought up to eat all the food on my plate, but now if I am full I stop eating.
Did exercise play any part in helping you to lose weight?
As I felt uncomfortable exercising in front of others and wearing workout clothes, when I first started the plan I did home exercise dvds. After 6 months of weight loss I took up swimming and I also did kickboxing classes.
Was there a particular aspect of Tesco Diets that you found most helpful?
I have a weekly meal plan, so I don’t have to think about what to cook for dinner. The shopping list is great and I don’t spend as much time doing my grocery shopping now.
What difference has losing weight made to you?
I love shopping with friends and trying new fashion trends. I also make more of an effort to see my family and friends. Before, I had no energy to exercise, but that has changed. I feel happy and I no longer stand out for the wrong reasons.
Has losing weight changed how you feel about the summer?
Summer has always been a hard time for me as I can’t hide under large jumpers. I am more confident about putting on my swimsuit now.
Have your family and friends supported you?
Everyone has reacted fantastically to my weight loss and one of my friends was even motivated to join.
Have you any tips for people thinking about starting a diet?
The best advice I can give is to keep at it and you will see the results. Good luck!
