I love being able to leave a comment when I weigh in which helps me to put each week into perspective. I can get any moans and groans out of my system and it motivates me for the week ahead.
After being involved in a car accident Susan’s mobility was reduced which caused her to pile on the pounds. The weight began to affect her health as her cholesterol levels went through the roof. She knew she had to improve her health and lose the weight. Through her determination and our support she’s slimmer, happier and looking forward to a fit and healthy future.
Here’s Susan’s story…
How long have you been on the plan?
I joined just over 8 months ago.
What diet plan did you follow?
The Vegetarian plan.
What made you decide to join us?
I decided to join because my cholesterol level was sky high. I realised that I had to do something to improve my health. My partner is 15 years younger than me and I was beginning to feel very old beside him. It is important for me stay healthy as my youngest daughter is expecting my 6th grandchild in June, she is getting married in 18 months time and I want to be there for her.
What weight and clothes size were you before you joined us, and what is your current weight and clothes size?
I was 12 stone 6 lbs wearing a size 18/20, I am now 10 stone 7lbs and down to a size 14, some size 14’s are even too big on me.
Did you lose any inches?
Yes, I’ve lost approximately 4-5 inches off my waist and hips. My face and neck are thinner and my double chin is not quite as double.
Have you previously tried any other diets and were they successful?
In 2000 I joined a weight loss group and managed to lose a good bit of weight. Then, in 2003 I had a road traffic accident which left me with a leg injury which causes me a lot of pain; this curtailed my previously active lifestyle. So the weight piled back on.
Was your weight causing you any problems?
Gaining weight left me feeling old and frumpy. I would wear baggy clothes to cover up my rolls of fatty flesh and I didn’t feel comfortable in the clothes I was wearing.
What part, if any, has exercise played in helping you to lose weight?
Soon after starting the diet I began swimming, now I swim 1000 meters twice a week and I really enjoy it.
What difference has losing weight made to you?
Losing the weight has made a huge difference. I feel thinner, younger, sexy and happy, I smile a lot more now and I can wear fashionable clothes with aplomb.
Have you enjoyed the diet plan?
I have thoroughly enjoyed the diet. The meal plan is excellent and really flexible allowing me to swap and change meals if I want to. I love being able to leave a comment when I weigh in which helps me to put each week into perspective. I can get any moans and groans out of my system and it motivates me for the week ahead. I really look forward to the replies I get from the mentor team as they are always full of support and encouragement.
Tell us about your diet before you joined us, and how has your diet changed as a result?
Although I’m a vegetarian, my diet was very unhealthy. I ate a lot of chocolate and butter and not enough fruit. My portion sizes were far too big. Now I eat smaller portions and more fruit. I don’t eat as much chocolate but I still give myself a treat every now and again.
How have your family and friends reacted to your weight loss?
They are really impressed by my determination. My sister is a bit miffed though, she’s used to getting my daughters cast-offs but now I’m claiming them. My daughters constantly tell me how good I look and have encouraged me to wear more fashionable clothes.
How do you feel about your weight loss?
I am really chuffed with my weight loss and happy to show off my new figure. A few weeks ago, I wore a jumper dress, leggings and knee high boots; something that I wouldn’t have done 9 months ago. I’m really looking forward to buying my Mother of the Bride outfit next year knowing that I’ll be able to buy something figure hugging. I stopped smoking last November, and I haven’t put on any weight, it’s all thanks to your service being there to support and motivate me.
Do you feel confident about maintaining your weight loss?
I’m determined to maintain my weight loss. I have a wedding next year and I’m going to look as good then as I do now. I want to look well for my daughter but especially for me. I’ve just bought a purple fitted coat and I feel really good when I am wearing it, it makes me smile. I smile a lot now especially when I am wearing something that makes me feel sexy. You never know I might even lose a few more pounds, size 12 here I come.
Any other tips you would like to give?
Tell yourself you can do it. Once you get into the habit of eating sensibly it becomes easier to maintain.
