5 stone loss and loving life!

At 20 stone with a BMI of 39 Rob was gutted when he realised he was 3 stone too heavy to take up his wife’s generous offer of a rally car experience. This disappointment along with the fear of health complications due to his weight spurred him on to join our online dieting site and 8 months later he has lost nearly 5 stone on our healthy eating plan and has had a complete lifestyle change!

Here is Rob’s story……

How much weight and clothes sizes have you lost? I was 20 stone 4 lbs and wore XXL+ T-shirts and my waist was 44+. I am currently 15 stone 6 lbs and wear L T-shirts and a size 36-38 waist in trousers.

Has your family been supportive to you in your weight loss efforts? My wife has been incredibly supportive throughout. My son is 3 yrs old and has some tasty treats that have been tempting but he is quite possessive over them so they were easy to ignore.

What part has exercise played in helping you to lose weight? I exercised regularly during my diet and believe that it did the world of good. Whether it was just walking instead of using the car or joining the gym, every little bit helped.

Was your weight causing you any problems? Not fitting into clothes properly was stressful and it smashed my self-confidence to pieces. I was always aware of how I looked and most of the time I got clothes that were too big just to get a good fit. Exercise was also very difficult.

What difference has losing weight made to you? It has made a massive difference. I now have different nightmares when clothes shopping because I have something I have never had; choice, and lots of it. I am physically able to do just about everything now and most of all I can keep up with my son without having to stop for breath, and I can get into a rally car! My breathing has improved no end which is also due to quitting smoking,

Have you enjoyed your meal plan? I found the recipes and the choice of meals fantastic and there was lots of variety to suit different tastes. I found the responses to weekly weigh-ins very encouraging and the weekly comments box was brilliant as it has given me a diary of my weight loss. I always looked forward to the advisors responses!

Tell us about your diet before you joined us, and how has your diet changed? My diet consisted of LARGE portions and only eating when I was hungry. More often than not I would find myself bingeing just to satisfy my hunger. Of course there were take-aways....far too many take-aways! Now I eat 6 times a day and am conscious of everything I eat. I now know that I can have a treat every now and then but in moderation and not 3 times a day. I will never go back to the way I used to eat, NEVER. The lifestyle I now lead won't allow me to go back.

How do you feel about your weight loss? I am so happy about my weight loss. Losing the weight has opened lots of doors for me and allowed me to take part in new hobbies that I wouldn't have been able to do before. One thing I am proud of myself for is taking my top off on holiday. For the first time in my life my back and chest have a tan!

Do you feel confident about maintaining your weight loss? Absolutely, I know it will be hard but I have become accustomed to a certain lifestyle. I cannot return to my old ways, I am loving life too much.

Finally, a few words of motivation from Robert...

Not every week is going to be a success but I learned to dust myself off and concentrate on the next week even if it seemed like an uphill struggle and a waste of time. No one said it was going to be easy and it wasn't but my goodness it was worth it. Giving things up is hard but you can look back at what you used to be like and the sense of satisfaction and achievement is amazing.
