Alex loses to trek for charity

Having tried 100's of unsuccessful diets Alex was getting frustrated with the lack of information out there for vegetarians looking to lose weight. When she signed up to a fundraising trek for Marie Curie Cancer Care she knew she could never do it at the weight she was and signed up to the Tesco Diets set vegetarian plan. It was just what she needed...

Alex tells us her story

What Tesco Diets plan(s) did you follow?

Vegetarian

Have you previously tried any other diets and were they successful?

I’ve tried hundreds… And no!

What weight and clothes size were you before you joined us?

Size 16 – 12st 2lb. I'm now 9 stone 8lbs and a size 10.

Did you lose any inches?

Yes but I didn’t start to measure them till December

What made you decide to join us?

I signed up for a fundraising trek for Marie Curie Cancer Care and knew I could never do it at the weight I was.

What part has exercise played in helping you to lose weight?

A lot, I have joined my cousin’s running club which not only keeps me fit but has made me lots of new friends.

Was your weight causing you any problems?

I was worried that having signed up for the Marie Curie fundraising trek I wouldn’t be able to complete it and would let myself, my friends and the charity down.

What difference has losing weight made to you?

I just feel a lot better in myself, I have more energy and don’t have to pick clothes to try and look thinner.

Have you enjoyed the Tesco Diets plan?

Yes, I loved getting feedback, it was nice to get a ‘pat on the back’ when I’d done well and getting moral support when the weight just wasn’t coming off. I had found it very difficult to get a set vegetarian diet, I had even approached the NHS who wanted to refer me to a unit for people with eating disorders, I was shocked at their attitude. The Tesco Diets vegetarian diet was just what I needed.

I love that now I’ve lost weight my running has improved, I can run further, faster and with less of a red and sweaty face.

Tell us about your diet before you joined us, and how has your diet changed as a result?

That’s the best thing, a lot of what I eat is the same, just I eat better, for example I always loved pita bread and coleslaw, tesco diet just taught me to go for the low fat coleslaw and to ditch the big dollop of mayonnaise.

How have your family and friends reacted to your weight loss?

My sister is very jealous, she was always the thinner one, now it is me.

How do you feel about your weight loss?

I love that now I’ve lost weight my running has improved, I can run further, faster and with less of a red and sweaty face. On the day I reached my target weight I went to a wedding where I was dreading seeing some of the guests, looking and feeling better about myself gave me the confidence to actually go, and it was great seeing the looks on their faces when they saw me.

Do you feel confident about maintaining your weight loss?

Yes, I know that Tecso will be there to support me if I start to slip when I’m getting back into things, but also feel that they have really improved my attitude towards what I eat, so I do eat more healthily anyway.

Any other information, tips or comments you would like to give?

Don’t be down heartened when the loss doesn’t show on the scales, try measuring yourself and just thinking about how you feel generally.
