Andy's climb to success!
For those of us who prefer a brisk walk around the park to a lazy night in front of the television the prospect of giving up exercise is unthinkable.
Andy had been in denial about the affect his weight was having on his health for years but the realisation that being heavier was restricting his quality of life hit him hard one day when he was out hill climbing with friends. He knew his lack of endurance was primarily down to being overweight and other health problems that may have been worsened by his poor physical shape.
That very evening he made one of the bravest decisions of his life and joined the online weight loss service.
“A days climbing with some friends during which I was spectacularly unsuccessful was the straw that broke the camels back. I logged onto the site and decided to give it a go.”
After following the Totals plan for 6 months Andy lost 2 stone 9 lbs and reduced his BMI from a dangerously high one of 30 to a much healthier BMI of 25 which puts him in the normal range for his weight and height.
The weight loss has hailed a number of beneficial changes to Andy’s life. Without a doubt he is delighted with the improvement in his appearance and physical fitness but better still his high blood pressure and high cholesterol have dropped to normal levels.
“At my last check up both my blood pressure and cholesterol levels were normal. My GP is considering reducing my medication as long as I maintain my weight loss.”
What an incentive to stick with the plan!
Andy has rekindled his passion for climbing which will play a major role in helping him maintain his current weight.
“Before registering for the plan I already attended a gym but only sporadically. I now attend the gym at least twice per week. My climbing standards have improved and I try to get into the mountains as much as possible."
Although Andy felt the Totals plan was the most flexible diet for him he did make sure to use some of the recipes and portion sizes from the set meal plans to help him make food choices that are healthy and sensible.
“The initial meal plans I received whilst on the Low Salt diet gave me great guidance and I still use them. The Nutrition Totaller steers me on a steady course.”
The Totals plan was just what Andy needed to rid him of those lazy and indulgent eating habits that had taken a toll on his waistline and health.
"My Achilles heel was the work canteen which provided cooked breakfasts, pies and chips. Dieting has injected some well needed discipline into my eating habits. I prefer to prepare my own food for work and I have stopped eating the treats provided by other family members. The two occasions when I did experience weight gain followed holidays where I relaxed and admittedly returned to bad habits."
Andy has no intention of letting his weight slip again, his health and love of sport are much too important to him.
“The health benefits are too many to allow myself regain any weight.”
