Dougie's success on the Low Fat plan
Dougie never wanted to follow a diet. He was embarrassed by the idea of weekly meetings and worried that his working hours would prevent him from ever having the time to follow a diet. Dougie found the perfect solution in Tesco Diets. He liked the anonymity and support it offered him. After a particularly gruelling hike Dougie realised that he needed to lose weight so he registered with the Low Fat plan and lost an amazing 4 stone 7 lb.
Dougie tells us his story…
Have you tried any other diets?
I never tried any diets.
What made you decide to join us?
I didn't want to join a “diet club” and go to weekly meetings. My work means I never know when I’m going to finish at night, plus I guess I was too embarrassed. I also didn’t fancy having to “count points”. As for a turning point, I remember having to stop and sit down whilst on holiday, when walking. We had been walking for miles beforehand, but I was still mortified.
Was your weight causing you any problems?
Getting clothes in xxl wasn’t too much of a problem, but feeling comfortable in them was a different story. Since shirts and t-shirts were so big, they seemed to just hang on me. I wasn’t really wearing them to look good, I was just wearing them to hide myself.
Did you lose any inches?
I’ve lost 5 inches around my waist and 7 or 8 inches from my stomach, which is probably the most satisfying of all. My legs are thinner due to being able to do more exercise and I have at least 2 less chins.
What difference has losing weight made to you?
Losing all the weight has made an immense difference to everything I do.
- Walking the dog
- Riding my bike
- Getting healthier
Have you enjoyed the Tesco Diets plan?
It has been fantastic for me. Being able to choose from so many meals is great. It means I never get stuck with the same old lunches or dinners. Little things like the weigh-in replies make you feel good. The fact that the reply comes from a real person and not just a computerised reply makes it all feel very personal and reminds me that I’m not doing this alone.
How do you feel about your weight loss?
I am amazed that the weight has come off and is staying off. I’m proud of the fact that I’m looking so much better and no longer hiding myself under the biggest t-shirt I can find.
Has exercise played a part in your weight loss?
Exercise has played a massive part in my weight loss. I am mountain biking again.
How have your family and friends reacted to your weight loss?
Everyone has been so supportive from the start particularly my partner Michelle who has been my biggest supporter from the beginning. In fact, she was the instigator of it all and I’d like to take this chance to thank her! Even my workmates in a very blokey industry have noticed and passed comment, which makes you think that there is a very noticeable difference in how I look.
Have you any other tips or comments?
Don’t take money to work with you if you’re a serial snacker like I was. Also don’t get down if you don’t lose any weight or even gain a pound. It won’t always go to plan, but try and use that as motivation for the following week instead. One more thing, if you’re not on a diet yet, but want to start, try this one. Try a diet that will allow you to eat real food.
