Mark's lost the beer belly

Mark was always described by friends as carrying a bit of extra weight. The prospect of an upcoming spinal surgery caused him to reflect on his lifestyle and he was determined to change. Unable to do much exercise, he knew any weight loss would have to come from diet alone.

Here’s Marks story…

How long have you been a member?

I joined 6 months ago.

What plan did you follow?

I followed the Light Choices plan.

What weight and clothes size were you before you joined us, and what is your current weight and clothes size?

I weighed 14 stone, and found a 36” waist a bit too tight. I am now 12 stone and wear a size 34” trouser.

Did you lose any inches?

Yes, although I didn’t measure my inches, my new belt hole is 2 inches smaller than the one I started on.

Have you previously tried any other diets and were they successful?

I tried a weight loss group but had mixed results.

What made you decide to join us?

I was annoyed with my shape and weight, and the effect it was having on my life. I needed to have a major operation on my back and wanted to give myself the best possible chance. A friend recommended your service to me as they had used it and found it a great success.

Have your family been supportive in your weight loss efforts?

I have a wife and two children. They have been a real support to me throughout my journey. We found the family meal option a really good way to help the whole family to eat healthily.

What part, if any, has exercise played in helping you to lose weight?

I have not been able to exercise very much due to my back injury so all of my weight loss is due to the diet plan.

Was your weight causing you any problems?

I desperately wanted my spinal surgery to be a success and I knew that losing the weight would help me in my recovery. While it was my back injury that prevented me from exercising, the extra weight wasn’t helping things either. I also felt self conscious in what I wore; I would shy away from wearing a lot of my clothes as I felt uncomfortable in them.

What difference has losing weight made to you?

Losing the weight has made a huge difference to me. I have much more confidence in myself and I feel like I can wear what I want without feeling self conscious or fat. Shedding the pounds has also helped me with my recovery process after my surgery. So without doubt, the diet has made a huge difference to me.

Have you enjoyed the diet plan?

Yes, I really enjoyed having the meals planned out for me while still having the flexibility to adjust them to suit my tastes, it was invaluable. Planning and organisation were the reasons why my other attempts to lose weight had failed. Having my meals planned out for the week was a massive helping hand. I really liked the positive approach of the plan, telling me what I “can” rather than “can’t” have was something that I didn’t expect, but really enjoyed.

How have your family and friends reacted to your weight loss?

They have all reacted very positively; I even got called thin the other day.

How do you feel about your weight loss?

I am extremely proud of losing my “beer belly”. People used to describe me as “carrying a bit of weight” but now they don’t. Losing the weight has really boosted my confidence.

Do you feel confident about maintaining your weight loss?

I feel very confident about maintaining my weight as I am completely committed to the diet plan.

Any other comments you would like to give?

I really can’t recommend the service highly enough. Not only has it made dieting easy, it made it fun and it has had a positive impact on my health, helping me to recover after major spinal surgery. It’s superb.
