My first time on a diet and I lost 3 st 6 lbs!
Véronique had never been on a diet before, until she registered for our Gi plan. But after only 5 months of following the plan, Véronique has lost a whopping 3 stone 6 lbs, not to mention several dress sizes!
With a starting weight of 14 stone 2 lbs, Véronique’s 5’ 5” frame meant she had a BMI of 33 which put her in the obese category. Now weighing in at a slim and trim 10 stone 10 lbs, her BMI has fallen to 25, putting her well out of risk of developing such conditions as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
So after never having dieted before, what made Véronique join our online programme? “I was reading an article in a healthy living magazine and I suddenly realised how many problems are linked to obesity. It really scared me! I realised that I had been putting on weight for the past 5 years and I have become very unhealthy. I went on to the website straight away, and had a look. I also had a look at other programmes that were available but nothing seemed as good as this Gi plan, so I joined a few days later.”
Véronique had previously been finding that the extra weight she was carrying was causing her a few problems. “Not only did I not have anything to wear, I also had a very bad knee due to the weight I was putting on it. And because of the sore knee, I could not enjoy the activities I wanted to do like badminton and squash. It was a vicious circle.”
As the weight fell off, Véronique was able to return to playing badminton and squash, as well as walking her dog every evening. Although she didn’t always get as much time to exercise as she would like, she believes that any exercise she did helped her in pushing off those last few stubborn pounds.
Véronique dropped the dress sizes as the stones and pounds fell off too! “I used to wear size 22 on top and 20 on the bottom. Now I am 14-16 on top (I’ve always had, and always will have a big chest!) and I take a size 12 in trousers. I haven’t had a chance to buy new, smaller clothes yet, but I can fit into the clothes I used to wear when I was a student!”
Throughout her weight loss journey, Véronique’s husband supported her all the way, and helped her to fit in her meals around their routine. “I have really enjoyed the meal plans. I got to try some new foods that I had never tried before. I will carry on using the recipes now because they were really fantastic. My diet has completely changed since starting the Gi way of eating. I really pay attention to food labels now before buying anything, and watch my portion sizes.”
Véronique is revelling in her weight loss success, and her friends are all delighted for her. “Since losing the weight, I feel wonderful – much more confident. I feel really proud when I’m walking down the street. It’s a fantastic feeling! I was the centre of attention at work the other day. All the women were saying how slim my legs were. They were really envious of my figure and I couldn’t believe it! It made me feel so good.”
“A lot of people can’t figure out what’s different about me, or don’t want to say it at first in case they offend me! I did used to hide my appearance before, but now I’m showing off my new shape. Everyone is delighted for me. They can’t believe how quickly I’ve lost the weight, and how determined I’ve been! My life has completely changed and I’m so determined to stay the way I am now.”
So you’re confident about maintaining your weight loss, Véronique? “Definitely” she exclaims, “I would never go back to the big me!”
