Rachel's success on the Totals plan
Losing anyone you love is devastatingly hard; it has the potential to change you forever. Rachel’s mum passed away recently and one contributing factor was her weight. This really hit home for Rachel as she had always struggled her own weight problem. She knew the risks associated with obesity and was left reeling when confronted with this in such a painful manner. After receiving a recommendation for the online plan Rachel decided to give it a go. She lost 2 stone 10 lbs, but more than that she found her confidence and improved her health.
Rachel tells us about her weight loss journey…
Why did you decide to join us?
My mum was overweight and sadly died at the age of 60 in 2008. Seeing her death certificate mentioning morbid obesity as one factor put it plainly for me. Weight had crept on since my daughter was born in 2006. I wanted to be the person I really am without the weight and complications it comes with. A friend had lost over a stone with the plans. The accountability without the public humiliation appealed to me.
Was your weight causing you any problems?
There was a lot of diabetes in my family which was a worry. My confidence was also really low with regards clothes, and simple things like running around after my daughter. Also health wise we do want another child and I didn’t want to start the pregnancy so big.
Tell us about your diet before you joined us, and how it has changed as a result?
Some of my choices weren’t as good as they could be. The Totals plan allows me to decide what to eat – I even got to include a Wispa Gold when it was relaunched into my diet for a day. One factor which helped me to start the diet was my husband agreeing to eat with me, meaning that I wouldn’t have to cook 2 meals after work. As a result he has lost some weight too and feels healthier. Totals keeps reins on how much you can eat. It helps you to aim for a good balance and over time is reprogramming me to make the right choices.
What difference has losing weight made to you?
My confidence is improving, and clothes shopping is now a pleasure rather than a necessity! My daughter likes the way I wear more skirts, dresses and heels.
What did you think of the overall service?
I have recommended the service to many friends who seem to be in a similar place to where I was. If you are busy fitting in weekly meetings for other clubs is tricky, but the weigh-in online is much more convenient.
How have your family and friends reacted to your weight loss?
My husband and daughter seem very proud, and my close friends have helped to keep me motivated and comment on how well I am doing which always helps.
Have you any other tips you would like to give?
You need to decide you want to do it and are ready to change-it took me 14 months to get to that place after losing my mum. We have managed to adapt some recipes of family favourites and to be honest everyone benefits.
