What is 24-hour recall?
The 24-hour recall method is a way to take a snapshot of your usual eating habits.
As the name suggests, the aim is to detail everything you ate over the previous 24 hours. This is done in conversation with the nutritionist during your consultation. She will ask you about the foods you ate, your mood at the time and the setting of the meal – for example, were you out for dinner with friends, or standing on your own in the kitchen. The nutritionist will ask you about the portion size of each food, how the food was prepared and how the food was served – did you add salt at the table, for example.
Any detail you can provide will help improve the accuracy of your analysis so, for this reason, a DNA appointment using this method is scheduled for 45 minutes.
You will also be asked to complete a brief questionnaire in advance of the appointment. The reason for this is to make us aware of any specific dietary or medical concerns* you might have and to let us know about any topics you would particularly like to discuss. This will ensure you get the most benefit from your consultation.*Please note: if you have a medical concern affected by diet, we can help you implement advice given by your doctor or dietitian or help you put healthy eating advice into practice but we cannot offer personal therapeutic advice and we cannot advise on medication.
