Your body fat percentage is the % of fat your body contains. A certain amount of body fat is essential as fat protects internal organs and tissue, is required for healthy hormone production, helps regulate body temperature and is the main energy store in your body.

However, above the healthy body fat percentage, people are at increased risk of medical conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes.

Your Lean Body Mass is the weight of your muscle, bone, organ tissue, blood and everything other than your body fat. It is important to maintain your lean body mass, and any weight loss target below this is not only unrealistic, but would indicate starvation. However we all have a biological requirement for some body fat and this too must be accounted for when setting target weights. An acceptable target weight would be 25 31 % higher than your lean body mass for woman and 18 25 % higher for men.
